Interview with Zalina Mohamed Gazali, Senior Quantity Surveyor

Q1. What’s the day-to-day of your role like?

My day-to-day work usually involves working closely with the project team on the variation works, monitoring, and settling the variation costs with the Contractor. Occasionally, I will be required to work on cost estimates for the Client for any anticipated variation works so the Client can decide whether to proceed with the changes. When needed, according to the project’s schedule, I will also prepare for Sub-Contract tenders, evaluations & recommendations to the Client.

Q2. Before working at AIS, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I worked as a camp instructor under a vendor who conducts outdoor camps for schools in their campsites. Although it was just for a short while, it was a memorable and fun experience as we got to bond with the students & enjoy the outdoor activities like high elements, night walks & campfire nights!

Q3. What do you like most about AIS?

I love that we have the flexibility to work from anywhere besides the office, and when we do work from the office, it’s a conducive space. I often get praise about the office from guests who come over for meetings, especially about how big our pantry area is!

Q4. How have you grown professionally while at AIS?

The guidance I received from my seniors and my experiences since joining as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor has made me more confident in overseeing project execution and effectively engaging with stakeholders.

Q5. Describe your hobby.

I love listening to music & podcasts. Besides that, I love taking long morning walks at PCN and enjoy the scenery whenever the time permits. It helps with relaxing the mind, although the legs will be crying for help at the end of each walk!

Q6. What advice do you have for prospective AIS candidates?

Don’t wait. Come and join our AIS family!

Q7. What are three words to describe AIS?

Conducive, connected, supportive.

The guidance I received from my seniors and my experiences since joining as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor has made me more confident in overseeing project execution and effectively engaging with stakeholders.
