Q1. What inspired you to pursue a career in HR and administration?
I’ve always been passionate about working with people, and I naturally enjoy connecting with others. Being easy-going helps me relate to colleagues and create a friendly, approachable environment. HR and administration felt like a perfect fit because I can combine my organisational skills with the opportunity to make people feel valued and supported. Every interaction allows me to positively influence someone’s work life, and that sense of impact keeps me motivated.
Q2. What has been the most eye-opening experience since stepping into this role?
At first, I thought HR was mainly about managing people and keeping track of personal details. But I soon realised that HR goes far beyond administrative tasks. Decisions we make in HR can deeply affect employees’ lives, whether it’s hiring the right candidate, offering training opportunities, or managing benefits. I’ve learned that HR is not just about processes, it’s about empathy, understanding, and building meaningful relationships. Each interaction can shape someone’s experience, and that responsibility has been both humbling and eye-opening.
Q3. In your role, how do you see HR contributing to the overall success of the organisation?
HR acts as a bridge between the organisation and its people. By creating a positive work environment, ensuring fairness, and supporting employee growth, HR contributes directly to engagement, productivity, and retention. When employees feel valued and motivated, they perform at their best, which drives the organisation forward. HR is also key in cultivating the company culture, aligning employees with organisational goals, and ensuring a harmonious workplace where everyone can thrive and feel included.

Q4. Can you share an initiative or moment where you felt your work made a difference to someone at AIS?
One of the most memorable moments was assisting a new employee during onboarding. I guided them through the processes, introduced them to colleagues, and helped them feel comfortable and confident in their role. Seeing them settle in quickly, engage with their team, and perform confidently reminded me that even small actions, such as welcoming someone, clarifying procedures, or offering guidance, can make a significant difference in a person’s work experience. It reinforced why empathy and attention to detail in HR matter so much.
Q5. You have been actively involved in CSR initiatives. What inspired you to give back to the community?
I believe that organisations thrive when they support the communities around them. Personally, I feel a sense of responsibility and fulfilment when I can contribute to helping those in need. My husband is a volunteer with Al Azhar Care, a Malaysia-based NGO, and whenever possible, I join him in some of the activities. We’ve been involved in distributing food to the homeless during Ramadhan, helping with mosque programmes like bubur lambuk, and missions in Aceh (flood relief) and Sabah, where basic necessities were distributed to kampung communities. Seeing the joy and relief on the faces of those we help reminds me that even small acts can make a big difference. Currently, my involvement is more limited, but I still contribute whenever I can. Participating in CSR initiatives allows me to apply empathy and compassion beyond the workplace, which enriches both my personal and professional life.

Q6. How has giving your time and energy to others enriched your own growth or perspective?
Being involved in community work has truly changed the way I see life. It has taught me patience, humility, and gratitude. I’ve learned that people who act with kindness, even in small ways, are truly rich in life. Helping others also reminds me to appreciate what I have, to value the human connections around me, and to approach challenges with empathy. These lessons carry over into my HR role, influencing how I interact with colleagues and employees, making me more compassionate, understanding, and effective in supporting their needs.
Q7. How has your involvement in community work influenced the way you approach your HR role?
Community work has been an eye-opener. It has reminded me that everyone carries their own challenges and stories, which we may not always see on the surface. Through these experiences, I’ve learned the importance of listening with empathy, understanding individual circumstances, and offering thoughtful, sincere support. Experiencing life from different perspectives helps me approach HR with greater empathy and flexibility. I’ve learned to see beyond standard processes, ensuring that every employee feels understood, respected, and supported. This approach strengthens relationships within the workplace and contributes to a more inclusive and positive organisational culture.
Q8. Who has influenced your growth at Asia Infrastructure Solutions, and how?
My colleagues and managers, both past and present, have played an important role in shaping my growth. I feel grateful to have worked with people who are supportive, patient, and always willing to share their knowledge and experience. Their guidance has helped me navigate challenges, step out of my comfort zone, and gain confidence in my abilities. By observing their leadership styles and how they manage different situations, I’ve learned valuable lessons about professionalism, accountability, and teamwork. Their trust and encouragement continue to inspire me to improve, take on new responsibilities, and grow not only professionally but also personally.
Q9. From your perspective, what helps create a positive and supportive workplace environment?
To me, a positive workplace starts with open communication and mutual respect. When people feel safe to share their thoughts and know that their voices matter, it naturally builds trust within the team. I truly believe that kindness doesn’t cost anything, yet it makes a big difference in how people feel at work. When employees feel seen, heard, and genuinely appreciated, they are more motivated and confident in giving their best. Creating a culture where colleagues support, encourage, and uplift one another helps build not just a productive workplace but also a harmonious and meaningful one.
Q10. What advice would you give to young professionals starting their careers?
Stay curious, be proactive, and embrace every opportunity to learn. Knowledge doesn’t only come from books or formal education; it can come from anyone, anywhere, including the homeless, underprivileged, or those with different life experiences. Never judge or belittle anyone based on their background, education, or status, because everyone has something valuable to share. Build strong relationships, seek guidance from mentors, and face challenges with a positive mindset. Your attitude, empathy, and willingness to grow are just as important as your technical skills in shaping a meaningful and successful career.
