Project Description
Singapore’s Changi Airport is recognised as one of the world’s best airports and Terminal 4 was developed to accommodate the continued growth of air traffic in Singapore. The new fourth terminal brings an additional 195,000sq m of floor area and another 21 aircraft parking stands. It creates an airport retail destination and sets a new standard in airport innovation.
Our Role
The 3-storey Terminal Building (Terminal 4) comprises 2 Mezzanine Floors with a Basement and a Departure holding area, 2 blocks of Multi-storey Car Parks, 2 Storey Taxi Holding Area, Coach Parking and Coach stands, 2 Overhead Vehicular Bridges and a Pedestrian Overhead Bridge. It also comprises supporting infrastructure and facilities such as Aircraft Parking Stands and ancillary buildings.
Building on over a decade-long relationship, Arcadis worked closely with Changi Airport Group to procure a multi-disciplinary design team to provide pre-and post-contract quantity surveying services for the cost-efficient delivery of the terminal.
Developing Terminal 4 was challenging as it was a complex mega project on a fast-track programme. It was an Airport Terminal with a retail concept and had integrated airport facilities such as a seamless self-check-in and an automated baggage drop and handling system.
We had to develop a structured approach to our cost model to establish an efficient method of construction. The construction methods adopted were different for each terminal floor to accommodate the function requirements. This resulted in savings on the foundation.
