Project Description
Setia City Mall is one of the largest shopping destinations in Shah Alam, Malaysia. This expansive four-level mall offers a diverse range of shopping, dining, entertainment, and outdoor experiences, making it a popular choice for visitors. Notably, it is the first mall in Malaysia to be awarded the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Gold Award (Singapore), underscoring its strong commitment to sustainability and environmentally conscious design.
Our Role
Asia Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) served as the Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Consultant Engineer for the first retail mall in the Setia Alam township. The development, undertaken in two phases, involved two malls built by SP Setia in partnership with international property developer Lend Lease. The 3-storey retail mall spans approximately 1.7 million square feet.
Challenges & Solutions
Construction on soft ground posed a significant challenge for the foundation design and structural stability. To overcome these challenges, AIS employed specialised geotechnical and structural engineering techniques to ensure durability and minimise settlement risks.
Additionally, AIS implemented Building Information Modelling (BIM) up to Level of Development (LOD) 300, collaborating closely with the design team to deliver a fully coordinated, clash-free model from LOD 100 through LOD 300. This BIM approach enhanced design precision, facilitated detailed documentation, and streamlined project coordination, contributing to the successful delivery of the development.
