Securities Commission

Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering services for Design and Construction Supervision

About the Project

This award-winning building is the headquarters of the Securities Commission. Comprising 6-storey superstructure and 4-basement levels, it is an intelligent office building, complete with facilities for training and conferences, and staff recreational facilities.

Client Needs

The Client required a building that could stand the test of time, and the challenge was to complete this complex building with many unique features within a tight timeframe.

Our Solutions

The demanding layout provided many challenges in its structural design as a result of its complex geometry. Composite slabs, post-tensioned beams, deep transfer beams and thick flat slabs were some of the elements used in its structure. The design took advantage of the existing valley that bisects this 1.6ha site, which was beneficial to the earthworks and the basement retention system.

Best Practices and Lessons Learned

The large substructure was constructed in a semi top-down approach to expedite the construction by allowing both substructure and superstructure to progress simultaneously. The construction management approach where different contractors were engaged for different trades required careful detailing and tight coordination amongst the design team. Despite the challenges and the tight timeframe, the building was successfully completed in time to the satisfaction of the Client.
