About the Project

The MRT Kajang Line (KGL) is an automated, driverless line operating in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. Package V6 consists of an elevated viaduct, approximately 5.1 km long, with three elevated stations from Plaza Phoenix to Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, whereas the Kajang Depot features a central maintenance facility exclusively for overhauling trains. 

Client Needs

We were commissioned by the client to provide Geotechnical Engineering expertise for the foundation of the elevated viaducts and stations in Package V6, and the entire 20-acre Kajang Depot in Package V8.

Our Solutions

We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the pile foundation design for the elevated viaducts, across diverse terrains, including residential areas, rivers, and major highways.

Our expertise extended to delivering ground treatment designs for stations, access roads, and the depot. Additionally, we provided valuable insights into both technical and contractual aspects, ensuring dedicated site supervision throughout the entire project duration.

Various value engineering designs were prepared to suit MRT Corp’s technical requirements and the construction programme set forth by the Project Delivery Partner, Gamuda Berhad.  

Best Practices and Lessons Learned

The alignment traverses through granitic formation, with various weathering grades. The implementation of detailed soil investigation was crucial in affirming that each pile was constructed accordingly within the underlying rock formation with adequate geotechnical engineering capacities. Effective project management skills and fostering collaboration with clients, consultant engineers, contractors, and project owners were integral in ensuring that the project was completed successfully.
