Project Description
Completed in 2014, the Herriot-Watt University campus is a landmark international educational facility located on a 4.8-acre site by the scenic lakeside near Putrajaya Marina, within Malaysia’s administrative capital, Putrajaya. The campus stands out as Malaysia’s first “green campus” featuring a living grass roof that stretches 300 meters in length and 30 meters in width, creating a sustainable and environmentally integrated learning environment.
Our Role
Putrajaya Holdings, as the main developer, appointed Asia Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) as the Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical Consultant Engineer for the project. AIS delivered comprehensive design and engineering consultancy services, ensuring the structure’s integrity, stability, and sustainability under diverse site conditions. We were instrumental in integrating innovative design elements such as the extensive green roof and supporting eco-friendly building systems.
Our Solutions
AIS’s engineering input encompassed foundation design and structural systems capable of supporting the unique grass roof, and geotechnical assessments ensuring safe integration with the lakeside conditions. The project embraced passive design features, including natural ventilation, daylight optimisation, and water-conservation systems, aligning with the goal of creating a green campus.
