Construction of Polder at Areas A & C of Pulau Tekong

The construction of the polder at Areas A and C of Pulau Tekong represents Singapore’s first implementation of the “empoldering” land reclamation method. This innovative approach involves building dikes around the area to be reclaimed and draining water to create land below sea level. Unlike traditional sand infill methods, empoldering reduces the use of sand, cutting costs and promoting sustainability. The project includes extensive flood defenses, a drainage network, and pumping systems to manage water levels effectively. Upon completion, this development will provide additional land for military training, reflecting a unique blend of engineering innovation and environmental care.
