About the Project

This four-lane dual-carriageway highway is a section of the 400km Central Spine Road project, which is being developed by the Public Works Department Malaysia (JKR) as part of the Eastern Corridor Economic Region. The 45 km stretch undertaken by Asia Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) passes through challenging terrain with major cuts and fills, 13 bridges, 2 interchanges, and 23 underpasses.

Client Need

The client would like to construct a new highway to strengthen the north-south sub-corridor and provide better accessibility to and from the more remote areas of Pahang and Kelantan, thus enhancing growth potentials for the central region.

Our Role

AIS has been appointed as the Principal Consultant and is responsible for coordinating the supporting Consultants for all stages of the projects, including Road Safety Auditor, Traffic Consultant, Town Planner, Environmental Consultant, Land Surveyor, and other consultants as required to properly complete the Scope of Services. We are also providing a full-time supervision team to ensure that quality standards are maintained during construction.

Best Practices

The alignment selection process has effectively prioritised several key factors, including minimising construction expenses, reducing land acquisition, steering clear of sensitive areas and geologically challenging terrain, and limiting the number of cuts and fills to six berms, thereby mitigating slope failure risks. Additionally, efforts have been made to minimise stream and road crossings while ensuring compliance with design specifications.
